I was trying to find that pizza box art competition that Jacob mentioned his friend was running, and I instead came upon this article (discussing Scott Wiener’s book ‘Viva la Pizza! The Art of the Pizza Box’) praising the underappreciated art of pizza boxes. While some pizza boxes are none more than the store logo on top of a classic vectorized pizza drawing, there are some truly brilliant designs as well. One artist “start[s] each time with acrylic and watercolor, noting that he prefers ‘the use [of] traditional techniques’ since ‘pizza is traditional.'” Others factor in the “frequency” of the cardboard corrugations, taking a mechanical design approach.
