Wall Art

I came across this piece will looking at French artist, JR’s recent work at the Louvre. The piece was an amazing optical illusion and reflects the artist’s use of preexisting structures and black and white additions. The installation I chose is on the Mexican-US border and shows a young Mexican child peaking over the border, but is not allowed through. The interesting fact is that the piece can only be seen from the US side and the Mexican child himself cannot the ideal vantage point from his side. I like how it uses the innocence of youth to portray confusion over the need for such a strong wall.

This is the Louvre Illusion that I first came across.

If you like his work, check out the film Faces Places on netflix, about a collaboration between him and the recently passed filmmaker Agnes Varda
