I found and really enjoyed this public art work by artist Olivia Erlanger, who installed mermaid tails protruding from washing machines in public laundromats. This work is whimsical and beautiful but still carries some deeper meaning- when mermaids are ‘presented as female’, they evoke controversies of physical and self-expressive capability.
