I really appreciate art that calls attention to the future (near or far) and that is no different here. Artists Pekka Niittyvirta and Timo Aho have added luminous lines to buildings, fields and and mountains to illustrate where the sealine will rise to in the future due to global warming. It is a simple, thoughtful and very profound way of reminding us that this is a real problem even though the process is too slow for us to see much of it in our lifetimes.
They hope to accomplish two things, help us see the effects of the ways we live now and call everyone to action to potentially prevent a future where these lines are replaced with real water instead. The exhibit is located at the Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre in the Western Isles. You can find the artists here, Pekka and Timo.
