Over 1,400 Hand-Painted and Drawn Frames Create a Maze of Emotion in a New Music Video for Mitski



This animation was created from 3D renderings as well as traditional tools (charcoal, paint, dry pastel, oil pastel, ink, and colored pencils). It follows a figure falling their way through the video. While watching this video I thought about the idea of camera angles having content- the wide-framed shot with the figure occupying a small amount of space compared to being the central element, surrounded by a dizzyingly shifting environment. This creates the sense of the ‘swirling and chaotic world’ that ‘consumes the main character in a wave of adrenaline-pumping emotion’
