Humanity in Animation

While scouring the internet for animation-inspiration in the obvious places, I was becoming increasingly frustrated with my findings. Much of it was Disney or Pixar-esque. There is, of course, nothing wrong with that sort animation but after a while it all started to look the same to me. At least, it all felt similarly impersonal. I couldn’t find the artist in the work. So shiny, so sleek.

I navigated to the Met website, searched “animation” and flipped through several pages worth of videos. By chance or luck I found a series of taped conversations with Miuccia Prada and Judy Davis. The shots capture and contrast these two women’s outlooks and idiosyncrasies. This video was my favorite: https://www.metmuseum.org/metmedia/video/collections/ci/waist-up-waist-down

I wonder if it is possible to capture this sort of humanity in an animated video. I hope so.
