Art and Marketing

Today, I came across some very clever marketing that reminded me of the Ikea lamp commercial we viewed in class yesterday.

In this “commercial,” artist Jody Xiong built a hand sculpture to hold musicians who performed music for live audiences. The hand and the crisp in-person quality of the music was meant to symbolize the quality of music you would hear with the speaker being advertised (which is also shown on a separate poster being held in a hand).

I wanted to share this because I appreciated the way art, symbolism and perspective really highlighted the important message this company wanted to tell prospective buyers. The artist is worth checking out, as well. Though I hadn’t heard about him before, he has a lot of interesting work and I agree with him that art akes the world a more beautiful place.
