Bao, a Pixar short film centered around an Asian family and food, recently won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short. This computer-animated film was created by Domee Shi, a Chinese-Canadian animator, as a labor of love, displaying true pride in her heritage. Initially, when this film was shown in theaters, its storyline and message were misunderstood by a large portion of viewers of non-Asian heritage, which caused some cultural disputes and a bit of fighting online. Now having won the Oscar though, fans of this short are very happy, believing that this film is finally receiving the right attention and appreciation that it deserves.
