Pat Steir’s Waterfalls at the Barnes Foundation

Pat Steir, The Barnes Series II, 2018. Oil on canvas. 86 ⅜ x 129 ¼ inches

Pat Steir, The Barnes Series XI, 2018. Oil on canvas. 86 3/8 x 118 7/8 inches

Pat Steir’s waterfall series at the Barnes Foundation displays conceptual art, minimalism, and philosophical strategies of representation with a mix of Jackson Pollock and Yipin ink splashing. While many of the lines may seem to be placed at random, each are, in fact, placed with intention. I found this to be very interesting as it reminded me of our last project. Although each project consisted of “random” shapes, each one represented something significant that was interpreted from our cities.
