Jack Kerouac’s Beat Paintings


When I first saw the title of this article, it immediately caught my attention as I had, the semester previously, taken an English seminar solely dedicated to the writings of Jack Kerouac. In the class, we briefly discussed Kerouac’s work as a painter, but more within the context of his other literary works and the larger Beat movement. I found it interesting to read this article personally re-contextualizing his works for me from the artistic perspective rather than the literary one (although they are closely intertwined), and the analysis of his works as abstractions of the individualistic and searching emotion that can be found in much of his writing.
