When it comes to data visualization (this example deals with basketball statistics), the most often form chosen is a simple black and white graph. Even when a site like FiveThirtyEight spices things up a bit, they usually only make minor adjustments, such as one or two colors. That is not the case with Kirk Goldsberry’s charts. Kirk creates beautiful graphics featuring bold, vibrant colors and often includes pictures in his graphics. However, his works never look cluttered or busy. Instead, the added aspects complement the graph and enhance the message he is trying to get across. This is a great example of design supplementing functionality while also transforming something that could be uninteresting aesthetically pleasing work of art.
